Get Inspired: By Ramblyn Jazz
Soaking up the sunrise in Machu Picchu
I am so thrilled to introduce Ramblyn Jazz a female traveller exploring the world, sometimes solo, sometimes with her Adventure Travel Buddy (ATB). Her summers are focused on “Van Life” with roadtrips around British Columbia, Canada in Wanda, her camper van. And off-season, she adventures internationally, always with a casual budget travel mind. She invites all wanderlust addicts to come meander with her ...

Exploring the badlands of Drumheller, Alberta
I’m Lyn (aka Jazz), a retired empty-nester living on the West Coast of Canada. I’ve been an avid traveller since my teens. My career as a school Music teacher meant I could only travel during high season which led me to take early retirement so I could take advantage of lower costs, temperatures, and crowds. I love to explore international destinations, but a passion for exploring the stunning landscapes of Canada sends me on 3-4 month #vanlife road trips in my beloved campervan named Wanda (the Wanderer) every summer. Friends and family had urged me to turn my Facebook posts into a blog for years but I never got around to it until the pandemic when I suddenly had more time on my hands. I created RamblynJazz without any grand ambitions, assuming I would get a handful of followers, and have been delighted and surprised at the support and growth I’ve experienced.

What was the moment or experience that made you fall in love with travel?
I went on an educational cruise around the Mediterranean when I was 16 where I fell in love with exploring foreign lands but also realized I wasn’t interested in the cruise experience.
If someone gave you a one-way ticket anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
Right now, it would likely be an African safari but my list is long and if you ask me tomorrow, I might say Vietnam, Egypt, Jordan or Argentina….
What’s a destination you think is completely underrated and deserves more love?
Haida Gwaii: an archipelago off the coast of British Columbia and the traditional lands of the Haida First Nations peoples. The stunning and pristine lands, combined with the deep spirituality of the Haida people left a lasting mark on my soul.
What’s the most unexpected place you’ve ever fallen in love with, and why?
I went on a week-long Amazon adventure while in Peru. The immersive experience of the jungle, the people, and the wildlife gave me much greater joy than I expected. Before that trip, I expected the highlight of my trip to be Machu Picchu but it was the jungle that stole my heart.
Have you ever taken a cooking class abroad? What dish did you learn to make?
I love taking cooking classes when I travel. It’s a great activity for a solo traveller that combines social time, a meal, and new recipes. A favourite way to share my travels with loved ones is to prepare a meal upon my return. Dishes learned in a cooking class that are now a regular part of my routine include pizza, gelato (Florence), tajine (Morocco), papoutsakia (Greece), sate kambing (Indonesia)
How do you see the future of travel evolving, especially with sustainability in mind?
I predict that more heavily-visited areas will begin to more strictly control the number of visitors to preserve precious landmarks and the local’s lifestyles. Ethical animal encounters, eco-tourism, and greater emphasis on domestic travel will continue to evolve and educate travellers.
What’s a dream project or destination still on your bucket list?
All the places I have yet to see!
What’s one quirky item that’s always in your backpack, no matter where you go?
I don’t know how "quirky" this is but I always travel with an art journal and supplies. On my road trips, I wouldn’t be without my flute and sheet music.
