Recently, I was talking with a dear old friend and shared how saddened I’ve been by the loss of so many mentors over the past few years. This month, I said goodbye to another, and it gave me real pause.

Her response was both simple and energizing: "Why don't you step up and become a mentor?"

At first, the idea felt overwhelming — how could I ever fill the shoes of those who helped raise, guide, and inspire me? But the more I sat with it, the more I realized that being a mentor isn't about replicating someone else's path. It's about putting yourself out there, connecting with others, sharing your own story, listening deeply to someone's dreams, and finding ways to support and encourage them.

It’s true: when a door closes, a window opens. And maybe now, it’s my turn to help lift others as I continue to grow.

To my fierce and passionate Beverly, may you live eternally in a land of forever sunsets!
